Installing a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)

A UPS provides connected devices with supplemental power until either power is restored or until the device can properly power down.  A UPS also provides the devices clean and consistent power in event of brownouts or power surges.  Servers that suddenly lose power without being properly shutdown can experience data corruption or damage to electrical components.

To install a UPS in your location, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Locate the shipment.  Contact Support@JJAdvantage.com for the tracking number.
  2. Unbox all equipment
  3. The server will have to be powered down to perform the remaining steps of the installation. Please contact Support@JJAdvantage.com or open a support case via the Support Portal to continue the installation.
  4. Await a JJ Advantage Support representative to give you the go ahead to unplug the server.   (Note: DO NOT unplug the server until the server has been powered down)
  5. Place the unit either on top or below the server in the preferred upright position.
  6. Plug the unit one of the power receptacles.  If there are no power outlet receptacles available, you could use one of the power outlets that the server was using after JJ Advantage Support gives you the go-ahead.
  7. Once the go ahead has been given, unplug the server and plug it into one of the power receptacles on the UPS (circled in green color)
  8. Power on the UPS by pressing the big circle button in the front of the UPS.
  9. If there is a second power supply on the server, plug that in the second receptacle circled in green.
  10. Find the USB cable and plug it into the UPS in the USB receptacle (circled in aqua color)
  11. Plug the other end of the USB cable into one of the USB ports in the back.
  12. Power-on the server and notify the Support technician that the installation is complete.
  13. The JJ Advantage Support Representative will confirm that the setup is complete and will inform you if there are any next steps.
